4 Moving Tips For the First Night in Your New Home
By HiLine Hal
It’s finally here – the day you move into your new HiLine Home! Moving can be a challenging process, but it doesn’t have to be as stressful as you may think. The first night in your new home should be exciting, fun, and stress-free, and we have four great tips to ensure that your first night goes smoothly.
1. Pack a “House Box”
When you pack, be sure to include a “House Box” that is immediately accessible for your first night in your new home. Your House Box should include anything that you might need to spruce up the new house. Cleaning supplies such as
- sponges
- dish soap
- all-purpose cleaner
- paper towels
- etc
In addition, be sure to include basic tools, for example:
- screwdriver
- hammer
- nails
- wrench
- pliers
- screws
- tape measure
- etc
2. The “People Box”
In addition to your “House Box”, you’ll need a “People Box”. This box should include all the necessities to keep yourself and your family comfortable for that first night in your new house. This box should be full of personal items such as
- toothbrushes
- toothpaste
- shampoo,
- brushes
- soap
- deodorant
- sheets
- pillows
- first aid items
- medications
- toilet paper
- napkins
- paper plates
- paper cups
- disposable utensils
3. First-Night Suitcases
Each family member should have their own special “first-night” suitcase. After a long day of moving, the last thing you want to do is dig through a bunch of boxes to find your pajamas, or listen to a distraught child crying because they can’t find their teddy bear. Encourage your kids to pack a few changes of clothes and their favorite personal items (books, stuffed animals, and electronics) in their own suitcase for easy access on your first night.
4. Take Plenty of Pictures
Moving into a new home is a life-changing event, document these memories by taking pictures the first night, before unpacking. You’ll be able to look back and see how different everything was before you settled in.
